What if the things we throw away could have another life?
On September 16th, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12 noon, Literacy Project International program The Recycle Challenge will feature to The Recycle & Repair Café, at New Orleans Healing Center at 2372 St. Claude Ave. Currently, we have 60 youth volunteers enrolled from various states in the U.S. attending. to experience a community-centered experience designed to empower the community to shift the way we think about waste. Instead of sending broken, worn, or unwanted items to the landfill, attendees come together to repair, reuse, recycle, and reimagine what they already have.
The Café brings together youth volunteers in training, artists, makers, educators, and community partners who share practical skills and creative ideas. Participants may learn how to repair an item, transform discarded materials into something useful, or discover new ways to extend…
