About the event

Poetry Refueled & Repurposed - The RECYCLE CHALLENGE PARADE & FESTIVAL

Sunday, April 23, 2023

Time:7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The participating poets at Poetry Refueled & Repurposed use words and terminologies we already know and “recycle” them. As we participate in this event, our words will highlight Mother Earth and teach each other to use what we've been given without destroying our environment.

What better place for this than a poetry incubator and creative landing like Cafe Istanbul?  The spacious 3,800 sq. ft performance venue has a mission - fostering, encouraging & promoting live music, dance, theatre, poetry, comedy, film & visual arts. Join in a power-packed evening with Cafe Instanbul's owner, poet, and personality, Chuck Perkins.

Our journey began two years ago, virtually as we introduced each poet on Zoom, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the attendance was small, we were powerful in our delivery as our diverse audience gathered from Brazil, Washington D.C., Colorado, New York, and New Orleans. The words shared by our five poets added validity to our environmental concerns and offered inspiration. This year, are delighted to feature this event both as an in-person experience and as a live stream on Zoom.

The event will include a special returning guest, Peabody Recipient, Genus is Common Founder and poet, Bruce George of the famed HBO series, Def Jam Poetry. Our mistress of the ceremony will be Linda C. Shaw, a well-renowned poet from Denver, Colorado. Additionally, from Colorado, is an author and poet, SETH. The New Orleans lineup, however, is still in negotiation.

This event places the attendees in direct contact with the men and women who touch our passions, fears, and realities with mere words. Expect an evening of discussion, inspiration, and poetry. Let us recycle and refuel our minds, bodies, and spirits.
